ACAD. ALFREDO MAHAR LAGMAY

Executive Director, University of the Philippines Resilience Institute, Philippines

Alfredo Mahar Francisco A. Lagmay is an Academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and Professor at the National Institute of Geological Sciences, University of the Philippines. He is currently the Director of the University of the Philippines Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (UP NOAH) and Resilience Institute (UPRI). He received the 2013 Outstanding Filipino award (TOFIL) and  Plinius Medal by the European Geosciences Union for outstanding achievements in interdisciplinary natural-hazard research and natural-disaster engagement in the country. He took his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom (UK).

DR. SAWAL HAMID MD ALI

Professor and Scientist, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia

Sawal Hamid Md Ali is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical, Electronics and System Engineering, University Kebangsaan Malaysia. Dr. Sawal received bachelor degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering from University Putra Malaysia, Master and Ph.D. degrees from University of Southampton, United Kingdom. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 publications and has been granted two patents on QPSK demodulator circuit (PI 2014000149) and direct digital frequency synthesizer (PI 2015701695). He is an ASEAN-US Fellow for Science and Technology (2016-2017) and ASEAN Science Diplomat in 2017.

DR. FRANCIS ALDRINE UY

Dean, School of Civil, Environmental and Geological Engineering of Mapua University, Philippines

Francis Aldrine Uy is the Project Leader of Universal Structural Health Evaluation and Recording System (USHER), a 24/7 Structural Health monitoring system for infrastructures that greatly improves preparation and response to strong earthquake and typhoon events. He is the DOST-PCIEERD 2018 Outstanding R&D Awardee on Special Concerns and 2018 World Summit Awards Winner for Smart Settlements & Urbanization Category. He is currently the Dean of the School of Civil, Environmental and Geological Engineering of Mapua University. He took his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of the Philippines. He is also a recipient of ASEAN Science Diplomat of 2019.

ARCH. GIOVANNI "GIO" CARINO

Principal Architect, ProdigyAE, Inc., Philippines

Giovanni “Gio” Carino is the Managing Partner, Chief BIM Consultant, and Principal Architect of ProdigyAE Inc. He is also the Director of for Business Development of the DigitalGrid 360D Corporation. He is a member of the Board of Directors of ECS Energy and Development Corporation. He obtained his Bachelors of Science in Architecture from the Mapua University. As a Building Information Modelling (BIM) expert, he has partnered with various government agencies and private institutions to develop more efficient plans, designs, constructions, and disaster resilient infrastructures.

DIR. ROMEO ESTRELLA

Executive Director, DigitalGrid 360D Corporation, Philippines

Romeo Estrella is a graduate of the University of California – Irvine with a degree in Environmental Analysis and Design, with an emphasis in Urban Regional Planning.  He has worked as a Transportation Planner at the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS). He was the Branch Chief for the Technical Planning and Policy, as well as the System Planning branch.  He has taught numerous courses on Smart Mobility, Sustainable Transportation, and professional development at the U.C. – Irvine, American Planning Association, and various transportation agencies throughout California.  His projects have won awards from the WTS-Orange County for Innovation, the California Transportation Foundation for Operational Efficiency, and America’s Transportation Awards sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. He is the Executive Director of the DigitalGrid 360D Corporation.

DR. ZAINURA ZAINON NOOR

Deputy Director, Center for Sustainable Environment and Water Security, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia

Zainura Zainon Noor is currently the Deputy Director of Center for Sustainable Environment and Water Security, UTM. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee in the United States (1998) and both MSc. in Clean Technology (2002) and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Newcastle University, United Kingdom (2006). Her expertise and passion in the field has led her to be appointed as a consultant for several high-profile national projects namely the development of Malaysia Environmental Performance Index (EPI), Malaysia’s Clean City Program and MIT-UTM Malaysia Sustainable Cities Program (MSCP). She is an ASEAN-US Fellow for Science and Technology (2016) and ASEAN Science Diplomat Award (2017).

DR. MICHAEL ANGELO PROMENTILLA

Professor and Scientist, De La Salle University, Philippines

Michael Angelo B. Promentilla is a Professor of Chemical Engineering and the head of the Waste and Resource Management Unit of the Center for Engineering and Sustainable Development Research at De La Salle University. His research interests vary from a wide spectrum of application of decision modeling and risk analysis to environmental and energy systems He is also now working with Philippine Council for Health Research and Development to develop a research roadmap toward a climate-smart and disaster-resilient health system under the ASEAN Science and Technology fellowship program and ASEAN Science Diplomat Awardee. He obtained his PhD from Hokkaido University, Japan. He is one of the Outstanding Young Scientists (OYS) conferred by the National Academy of Science and Technology in 2013. He was also an awardee of ASEAN Science Diplomacy in 2018.

DR. ANDERY LIM

Scientist, Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry, Negara Brunei Darussalam

Andery Lim has been working on many projects that are trans-disciplinary in nature. He is the first Bruneian recipient of the ASEAN Science and Technology Fellowship award, 2018-2019, where he works with the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry to develop policy roadmap towards solar rooftop and self-consumption scheme for sustainable energy development in Brunei. Recognized for his diplomatic skills, he has represented Brunei in many leadership and exchange programs across ASEAN, Japan and South Korea. He is also a certified editorial board member in the International Journal of Sustainable and Green Energy (IJSGE) of Science Publishing Group. He is an ASEAN Science Diplomat 2019.

DR. DUNG DUC TRAN

Deputy Head of Research Division, Center of Water Management and Climate Change-Ho Chi Minh National University, Vietnam

Dung Duc Tran is a Senior Researcher with an expertise on water management. He has been working on projects that focus on social communities especially in rural areas. His research includes water management to conserve nature values and enhance adaptation and resilience capacities of humans in dealing with the exacerbating impacts of climate change. The reduction in human interventions by water structures will decrease negative consequences from environmental degradation. He obtained his PhD through a scholarship granted by the Netherlands and National University in Vietnam. He is a recipient of the ASEAN Fellowship for Science and Technology and ASEAN Science Diplomat Award.

DR. ALONZO GABRIEL

Professor and Scientist, University of the Philippines Diliman, Philippines

Alonzo Gabriel pioneered studies on microbiological food safety of local food commodities. His researches have been recognized in the Philippines and abroad. Together with the Department of Agriculture, Gabriel was co-leader of the Philippine Food Defense Team that drafted the National Guidance for Food Defense that is readily available for use by the industry. With support from the Department of Science and Technology, he recently led the development of unified training materials for food safety for food manufacturers. He won numerous awards such as JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World for Academic Leadership, Japan International Award for Young Agricultural Researchers, International Union of Food Science and Technology Young Scientist Excellence Award (2013), Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) of the Philippines, ASEAN Science Diplomat Award and others. He took his PhD in Food Microbiology and Hygiene from Hiroshima University, Japan.
